Vermin of Bat Mountain
Cricket bats gained their name for the odd chirping sound they make when roosting. Cricket bats will hang by their claws, then rub their wings together like a bow and a string. Some folks find the high pitched noise peaceful, while others find it grating. The sound of their stridulation can act as a form of white noise, confusing the listener’s ability to perceive the geographic location of the sound.
After the miners of z’Zmoppopp were driven out by Stoneclaw the Mad, Mount Zkhann became home to flocks of cricket bats, from whence came its current nickname, Bat Mountain. At dawn and dusk their chirping can be heard all over the mountainside.
